LAScanner tracked ICE raids anonymously, until he was doxxed and faced a federal investigation. Here’s what his story teaches about online privacy risks.
If he would have followed OpSec as a life principle there wouldn't be any need OSINT. Truthfully OSINT is part of a broader spectrum that can incorporate Operational Security on multiple layers.
But then again, his actions seem to be depicting the script kiddies level.
Nothing in the post indicates sympathy for doxxing federal agents. In a separate substack note, we said that doxxing is terrible and if you do it, you're a terrible person.
Regular readers know we're on record that trying to hide from the feds is a guaranteed loss. If the dude was doing anything illegal and the feds wanted to find him, they would. Wouldn't matter how good his privacy practices were. Nothing we recommend about OSINT is going to change that.
This story was a teaching moment for the rest of us, irrespective of the underlying conduct. If the guy got doxxed for defending ICE agents, we would've written the same post.
It was a great read.
And yeah, it's scary - how you can build a whole profile on someone using OSINT.
People need to be careful about the things they are posting online, because all of it can be used negatively.

So youre feeling sorry for the guy that doxxed now?
It appears your page is dedicated to shielding illegal behaviour instead of going after it
How about you telling people to stop doxxing instead of heres how to dox more anonymously
Dumbass
