Read the whole post if you haven’t, but the gist is you need to know how to strip metadata from photos. The reason is that data in the wrong person’s hand poses a material privacy and security risk to you.

It used to be that if you stripped the metadata and didn’t include any obvious things in your photo (like your home address), the privacy and security risk from sharing photos was minimal.

AI is now upending that conventional wisdom.

We touched on this threat in our post linked above, but we neglected to go into much detail.

In hindsight we should have because that paragraph sparked a number of questions. Specifically: how real is this threat? Can AI actually pinpoint a location from a photo with no GPS data?
